Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri ,she is an amercian autobiographer and poet. she worked in Egypt and Ghana and was a member of the Harlems Writers Guild in the late 1950s, was active in the Civil Rights Movement. She served as Northern Coordinator of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Dr. Angelou has received over 30 honorary degrees and is Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University.
